I studied German in Munich and my family has German influences. That's why I would describe my German as relatively good.
I came to Black Jack during my studies. Back then, online poker was the number 1 pastime! I got bored with it after a while.
During a vacation in Las Vegas, I sat down to pass the time at a Black Jack Table. I knew the game from movies and TV series and thought that you always had to get 21 if possible. A naive misconception that many beginners fall victim to - and lose money.
I was immediately enthusiastic about this sociable game. People from all over the world and from different professions and classes sat at the table. The poor alcoholic gambling addict as well as a doctor or a rich businessman. Me in the middle - at eye level.
I liked that a lot! Here it doesn't matter what poor background you come from. What matters is how you play and how communicative you are. You're happy together when you win. It's the opposite of poker.
Unfortunately, I quickly got rid of my small student budget and had to watch the rest of the evening. At least the mood continued to rise thanks to free drinks.
I went out with a few people after a blackjack session. I have particularly fond memories of two American soldiers I met on the Caribbean island of Curacao. Also a shy but rich Canadian businessman, whom I made laugh again and again with crazy sayings or an Argentinean, who saw in me a gold-shitting donkey and pulled me through all the casinos of an Argentinean city.
These are people I've encountered over the course of my blackjack career and part of memorably successful evenings.

1. realism
The most important thing is always common sense. By that I mean a broad mass between mathematical giftedness and peasant shrewdness. I struggled extremely with maths at school and was sometimes left behind because of it. But I can do mental arithmetic relatively well. That's usually enough to be successful at blackjack.
However, it is also important to accept and ideally understand the principle of mathematical probabilities. There are two extremes here. And extremes are never good, as we all know.
Some are extremely skeptical and consider blackjack to be a Gambling. They are actually very close to the truth. Especially because there is the much worse other extreme of gamblers. These gamblers live in their own fantasy world and either tell tall tales of winnings to make their sad lives interesting or really think that they are "good" because they have won something with a lot of risk and luck.
This bitter irony of these people who look for luck in online casinos or at slot machines in pubs at several slot machines at the same time and do not realize that no place could be further from luck.

The most glaring rule is the payout ratio for a blackjack. For a natural 21 of ace and ten card, you usually get a 3:2 bonus (that is, 1.5 times the bet). If I bet $10, I win $15 with a blackjack, instead of the usual $10 with a normal hand.
But now there are more and more casinos that offer a payout ratio of 6:5, where instead of $15 you only get $12 for a blackjack.
Does that sound like a lot or a little?

5. COUNTING CARDS
The most important step to be successful at blackjack is to learn card counting. Card counting means that you use a certain counting method to record the ratio of the cards played. From this, one then derives predictions for the cards still to come.
Counting cards explained in a simplified way:
There are 10 balls in a bowl. 5 red and 5 blue. If you take 2 blue balls from the bowl and then draw blindly, you have a 5/8 chance of drawing a red ball, but only a 2/8 chance of drawing another blue ball.
It is a little more complex with Black Jack. There are not only 10 balls in play, but up to 312 cards.
So that you don't lose track of the cards, there are simple card counting systems that work so precisely that you don't have to remember every card. You divide the total of 13 cards Card values from 2 to the ace into different categories and then counts only these categories.
The best-known blackjack counting system "HiLo", for example, works by counting the low cards 2 to 6 with +1 and the high cards 10, J, Q, K and Ace with -1. Whenever a corresponding card is played, it is either counted with +1 or -1 or ignored if it is a 7, 8 or 9.
All cards played are counted consecutively from the start of the shuffle. The value you receive in the meantime is called the "running count".
This running count shows how much the ratio of high and low cards is skewed. The higher the running count, the more low cards have been played and the greater the likelihood that high cards will be drawn in the near future.
How does this information help us?
High cards include aces. And aces are needed for a blackjack. And in a blackjack, you get a higher win at a ratio of 3:2. This is the principle that provides a slight advantage for the player when the player knows that the probability of aces is increased.
So for starters, you can also just count aces.
Every 13th card is theoretically an ace. If no ace comes for longer than 13 cards, the probability of aces is increased.
However, this counting method is still too inaccurate, since you also want to know if the probability of 10-valued cards is also increased at the same time.
This is then only mapped with a counting system such as the HiLo system.
One of the main problems with card counting are the many Decks of cards.
In the past, Black Jack was only played with a deck of 52 cards.
Because it was too easy for good mental calculators to win, the casinos eventually introduced more decks of cards.
There is double deck and six deck in addition to the old single deck. Especially the 6-deck game is the standard in many places.
That gives you 312 cards to track.
And this is where the True Count comes in.
The True Count is made up of the Running Count and the number of remaining decks.
If 2 of the 6 decks have already been played, the remaining number of decks is 4.
You then divide the Running Count by this 4 and get the True Count.
This calculation is always done before placing a bet when the running count is positive.
Because the amount of the True Count also directly determines the amount of the bet.
The higher the True Count, the more likely you are to have high hands with ten-value cards or aces. And accordingly, the higher the true count, the more you bet.
